What types of emotional, social, and psychological care are available for the LGTBQIA+ community?
The fundamental thing that transgender people seek from health providers “is someone who’s culturally and medically competent to care for them in an environment where they feel safe.” That environment allows for frank discussions about the patient’s gender identity and related stress, sexual activity, and potential transition toward a different gender identity. A person’s stages of physical and psychological development are major factors in determining which interventions (if any) are most appropriate and when.
Here at Total Mind Wellness we follow the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care (SOC) for the Health of Transgender and Gender Diverse People. The overall goal of the SOC is to provide clinical guidance to assist transsexual, transgender, and gender nonconforming people with safe and effective pathways to achieving lasting personal comfort with their gendered selves, in order to maximize their overall health, psychological well-being, and self-fulfillment.
